The Jordaan wakes slowly on a Sunday. The bells of the Westerkerk drift over the Prinsengracht, bookshops set out crates of secondhand paperbacks, and the light on the Egelantiersgracht turns soft enough to paint. Patricia knows every corner of it, the hidden courtyards and the bridge with the best view of the houseboats, and she carries its gentle, unhurried spirit into every evening she spends away from it.
Her auburn brown hair falls long past her shoulders, her eyes are a warm brown, and at 28, slim and 172 cm tall, she looks like a figure who has stepped quietly out of a watercolour. Her style is soft romantic bohemian: linen, florals, a wrap dress that moves with the breeze off the water. Gentle and romantic by nature, she is also deeply attentive, noticing when your glass runs low or when a story needs one more question to come alive. She has a lovely habit of remembering small things, the song you mentioned, the town you grew up in, and returning to them later as though they were gifts.
Watercolour painting is her quiet devotion. She carries a small tin of paints and sketches canal houses from the steps of bridges, and she will show you the little book if you ask kindly. Film noir is her guilty pleasure, all smoke, rain and trench coats, which is why she adores the old district after dark, when neon bleeds into the water and every alley off the Warmoesstraat looks like the opening shot of a detective story. Her favourite detective, she will tell you, is always the one who notices the rain. Bookshops complete the picture, and she can lose an entire afternoon in one without noticing the light change outside.
Patricia belongs to our Jordaan circle, a short walk from the Nine Streets. Danielle shares her affection for old films, and Violetta has the same habit of vanishing between the shelves. Conversation with Patricia is soft and thoughtful, and it tends to linger in the memory long after the evening ends.
