Laura will chase you down a ski slope without a shred of mercy, then pour your tea as though you were the most delicate guest in Amsterdam. Adventurous to the bone and warm to the core, she has energy enough to fill a whole day and the gentleness to notice when the evening needs to slow right down. That tension is the whole charm of her, and she is perfectly aware of it. One moment she is plotting a sunrise ride through the dunes, the next she is tucking her feet beneath her on the sofa and asking about your family.
Horse riding gave her the upright, easy carriage; skiing gave her a collection of stories that nearly all end in laughter, usually at her own expense. She is 25, athletic at 169 cm, with long sun-kissed light brown hair and green eyes that brighten at any mention of a mountain. Her wardrobe leans toward breezy garden-party elegance, soft fabrics and fresh colours, a look that belongs as naturally on a Tuscan terrace as in a lamplit suite above the Amstel.
Italy is her favourite subject of all. She travels there whenever the calendar allows and will compare the espresso of Rome with the lemons of the Amalfi coast until you catch yourself checking flights. Sit with her long enough and you will have a route through Umbria, the name of a hill town worth the detour and a firm opinion on whether cappuccino is acceptable after eleven. It is not, she insists, though she forgives visitors.
Home for Laura is De Pijp, with its crowded terraces and the green calm of Sarphatipark, though the neon canals of De Wallen are a quick ride north and she enjoys the contrast between the two worlds. Guests drawn to her Italian side often ask about Bianka, who cooks the cuisine as lovingly as Laura travels for it.
